Glaucoma Laser Treatment

Treatment

Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) is a surgical procedure performed to lower eye pressure in patients with glaucoma. It is used when eye drop medications are not lowering the eye pressure enough or are causing significant side effects. In some glaucoma cases, it may be recommended as the initial treatment.

This procedure is usually performed in patients with mild to moderate glaucoma and can in some patients reduce the need or the number of medications required to treat glaucoma. Repeat treatments are also possible. Following SLT laser treatment typically 20-30% reduction in eye pressure is possible. Although SLT laser is an effective treatment for glaucoma, it is not a cure and ongoing review is required. At Westside Eye Clinic we use the latest OCT technology for diagnosis and management of glaucoma.
